Social Studies Philosophy
Though it may seem difficult to find enough time in the curriculum, Social Studies is a vital part of a student's education. Social studies should be implemented throughout all subjects, if not taught directly. There are multiple resources and books that connect Social Studies throughout different lessons and subjects. I personally want to incorporate social studies as much as I can in my classroom. Below is an example of how I incorporated social studies throughout all subjects. I used The Library of Congress website to obtain primary sources. This is a site I plan to share with my students. I also found the Discovery Education website very interactive and engaging for students. Social studies should be linked into the curriculum in an engaging way! I want to use interactive websites, hands-on activities, and interesting literature to spark my student's interest in social studies and current events.
